CHARACTER INFORMATION

NAME: Joss Possible.
CANON: Kim Possible
CANON REFERENCE: Kim Possible. Joss Possible is from the Kim Possible episode, “Showdown at the Crooked D” watch it here. http://video.disney.com/watch/showdown-at-the-crooked-d-4c7c939aa1977179f85c5fd8

That is if you can get it to work.

There’s more information here. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/KimPossible Check out, under “possible family” folder.
AGE: 13 aged up. Five years older than her original incarnation.  Oops I meant 1 year.>< Sorry
GENDER: Female
YEAR IN SCHOOL/FACULTY POSITION: Student/grade 8.
APPEARANCE: Joss is 4,8 with light brown hair, blue eyes, freckles, and is very slender. Here’s a picture. http://nikoagonistes.deviantart.com/art/Joss-Possible-ASIT-Future-116668875

Au differences note: Joss Possible is an amazingly developed character considering she had less than 22 minutes of air time to develop. However, there are many things her one episode left unexplained.

Why does her father have a ranch with robotic horses, what is his real name, who was Joss’ mother, what was it like for Joss growing up, how did she know so much of Kim’s adventures when some of what she described would have been hard to put in news stories, (which don’t always show everything correctly anyways), what did she do before she was into hero worship, and why does she have an accent that’s not really from Montana when she lives there? These questions, and many more, were simply not answered, but they could come up when I am rping with her.

Therefore I have to go outside of cannon. I have to make up, why Slim has a ranch of robotic horses, who Joss’ mother was, what Joss does when she’s not hero worshiping etc etc.

I did my best to come with explanations that were plausible, and true to the frame work or the Kim Possible universe. For example Joss Possible having a ability of working with “gadgets” is not explicitly stated in the episode. However it is plausible, given that tinkering runs in the family (Kim’s dad, Kim’s brother, Kim’s uncle slim, all show a propensity for advanced technology,), given that she grew up surrounded by it and given that she made an effective, if crude appearing, innovation to the grappling hook.

Still, I admit, if it’s not in the episode then I made it up.

One thing I did NOT change is the events at the Crooked D. The marvel universe, and the Kim Possible universe are very similar given the superheroes and villains and giant robots. So it wasn’t necessary to make changes.

PERSONALITY:Ever since she was inspired by her cousin/idol Kim Possible, Joss has wanted to be a super heroine, and with her spunky personality it might be just possible. Optimistic and courageous, Joss has been known to ride into danger without a single thought for her own life. To the contrary, she thinks of danger as a break from everyday boredom, and as a chance to achieve the greatness she sees in her heroes. When her town was attacked by two supervillains, she smiled, and declared, “Spankin!” She then saddled up on a robot horse, and rode into the fray next to her hero Kim.  This first endeavor proved to be reckless, as she ended up entangling herself and her cousin in her lasso, but Joss is too plucky to be kept down by failure for long, so she bounced back, in the end rescuing Kim’s friend, Ron from a super villain with her lasso and helping chase the villains out of town.

Still, Joss’ bravery and positive attitude mask a critical weakness; she just doesn’t belief in herself. To compensate for her low self-esteem Joss turns to hero worship bordering on obsession. She covers her walls with so many poster of her heroes that it becomes impossible to see the wall paper, and memorizes every one of their stories. This obsession once proved so overwhelming for Kim that she locked herself in the bathroom. Joss screamed like a small child that had been deserted by her mom. When Kim tried to convince her younger cousin to believe in herself, that “nobody’s a nobody,” Joss could only remark how great it is to be Kim, and not Joss.

Not all of Joss’ problems stem from hero-worship and low self-esteem. Growing up in “nowhere” Montana made it hard for to make friends, or satisfy her very active mind. Soon after the supervillain incident Joss was sent to a boarding school for girls, where she has since blossomed. Her ability to slowly adopt the mannerisms, and fashions of other people, combined with her infectious optimism, and desire to help people has allowed Joss to make many friends. At the same time, getting out of a rural area has allowed Joss to put her clever mind to better use, studying gymnastics, playing sports, and excelling in classes that just weren’t available in her rural school.  While Joss has proven socially competent she is understanding of people who aren’t, and is always happy to provide a shoulder to cry on when they have trouble adjusting. For one, Joss has learned from her heroes that is wrong to bully people, and right to protect them. More importantly, deep inside Joss doesn’t ever think she’s one of the “cool kids” even when she’s popular, so she can empathize with people who also aren’t. This is true even when dealing with mutants.

It was only recently that Joss learned she was a mutant, (see powers, and history section), but she never once believed that mutants should be ostracized, even if the rest of humanity considered them freaks. Joss admires anyone who can take her way from everyday boredom, and mutants can do this with their special powers. Indeed when she met a mutant named Anna for the first time she was elated, and they were BFFs on the spot. Since then, Joss has found out she’s a mutant herself, and far from feeling like a freak, she feels happy that she finally has something about herself that she can admire. Still, it would be wrong to expect her to abandon hero worship just yet. There’s a reason she wants to be part of a team, and it’s because she want someone to follow.

POWERS/ABILITIES:

"God made man, but Samuel Colt made them equal.”

Original source unknown, but a Colt manufacturing slogan.

Joss Possible has the power to disguise and/or hide her DNA from forensic equipment. If CSI analyses her DNA they will get no reading, or a reading that doesn’t make sense. Indeed any equipment or ability used to study her DNA will fail, because, her cells are constantly producing special proteins, and stains of fake DNA that hide her true genes.

Unfortunately Joss’ power is pretty useless in her quest to become an X-Woman. She does however have many other attributes.

She's kind of clever (120), has the dexterity and reflexes of an Olympic gymnast, and, despite her young age, skills in several forms of martial arts, but what really gives her an edge is the high tech gear she gets from her father’s R&D firm.

Here is some of the tech she carries.

Pet Robot: Tornado, as it is named, is a flying, metallic blue, robot that can carry two hundred pounds of equipment, which was built by Joss’ father. It is shaped like a diamond and has too robot arms to hand Joss equipment. It is made of a light weight carbon fiber material that is as hard as high speed steel, and can fly at eighty miles an hour. The robot is also equipped with an advanced AI that has been trained by Joss to respond to her movements, and smart phone apps. When not carrying a lot of gear, Tornado can be compacted into a backpack so it’s not in people’s way.

Micro communicators and scanners (10X)-Small devices that fit in a person’s ear, and can pick up speech through vibrations in their jaws. The devices can also scan the wearer’s body for signs of injuries. It can then send alerts to other teammates who have a smart phone or are wearing multi-spectrum goggles (see below).

Multi-spectrum goggles(4X): These computerized goggles able to detect electromagnetic waves in all spectrums, from Gamma rays, to Radio waves. Using a small dial on the side of the goggles allows Joss to adjust what wave lengths she sees. The goggles also features an automatic tinting mechanism in case of bright lights. She carries more the one, so she can share them with teammates.

Gas mask-Mask that covers Joss’ entire face, even her eyes. She can fit her goggles over it, even if it’s a little awkward.

Solar panel rechargers-Despite having an extremely power battery Joss carries these to charge devices when away from a power outlet.

First aid kit: Has bandages, disinfectants and other emergency medical equipment.

Lasso: This Lasso is not made of normal rope. It made of extremely tough carbon fibers. It can with stand a grenade explosion, and mutants that are just barely strong enough to lift a dump truck can’t get rip through this rope. If that wasn’t enough there is a propeller (this was from the show originally) at the end of the rope that lets Joss controls its movements via remote. This innovation wasn’t from her dad, but was from Joss herself. In a pinch it can serve as a grappling hook.

AU HISTORY:

In an all-girls bording school a mutant had lost control of her powers, blasting energy out of her hands, blowing holes in buildings and setting the school yard aflame. The X-men went into action, but when they got there they were surprised to find the mutant, not blasting the school yard. Instead, she was crying into the shoulders of another teenage girl, who embraced her and comforted her. The situation had already been diffused.

But lets rewind.

Joss Possible comes from a long line of inventors, scientist and medical doctors. The Possible name had been seen in the halls of Ivy League schools, at the operating tables of the most prestigious hospitals, and in the labs of top government research labs like NASA, DARPA, and CERN. Yet none of the Possibles were able to amass a vast fortune until Texas A&M graduate, Theodore “Slim” Possible, and his wife Joselin, founded their own research and development firm in rural Texas called “BR&D.” The firm specializes in custom inventions for industries, and after it made Slim and Joselin into millionaires they decided to become parents. Unfortunately, Joselin died in a car accident soon after giving birth to a baby daughter. To remember his wife, Slim would name his daughter Joss.

Joss' natural curiosity made it so her father and other caretakers had to run around non-stop to prevent her from braking glass objects, from crawling up counters, and walking into dangerous areas. She only became more active as she got older, wanting to swing on trees, and check under every rock and log, but Slim, despite his busy schedule with his firm, he managed to prevent her from discovering the hard way that rattlesnakes bite, and scorpions sting, and soon found they enjoyed tinkering with nuts, bolts, and semiconductors together. Other scientist who worked in the lab used to joke that she was the lab mascot. She loved it. As she got older she would spend time doing odd jobs in the labs, simple things like taking photos of nano tech, and preparing equipment. It came to be a kind of summer job for her.

As much as Joss accepted tinkering in her father's lab, she started becoming bored with life, spending many an hour sitting on the porch with her chin on her fist. She went to school, joined the girl scouts, and made many friends, but ultimately there just wasn’t much to do in her area. Things only got worse when she and her father moved to Montana in an area even more remote than her home in Texas.  Other relatives suggested that Slim send Joss off live in the city with them for a while. There would be much more to do there, but Slim didn’t want to be separated from his daughter. Not even for a few months. It seemed that Joss was doomed to be bored, but then one day when the TV was on she discovered something that would set her on a new path. Superheroes.

Joss was only Six when she saw a news story of Ironman holding up a collapsing bridge. She was instantly inspired. She started spending late nights reading up on this Ironman, and from there branched out to hearing about other heroes, like Captain America, Black Widow, and Miss Marvel, but her absolute favorite super heroine was her own cousin Kim Possible, who was only a teenage when she started going toe to toe with criminal organizations. For years she dressed like Kim, adopted every one of her slogans, covered her wall with posters of her, and, coveted every word of her stories, and it was only a matter of time before she wanted to be in one. When she was twelve years old she got her chance.

Kim was visiting when Joss’ town was attacked by the supervillains Dr. Dracken, and his “sidekick” Shego. Far from feeling scared, Joss rode in to the fray with Kim on a mechanical horse, and though Joss got in the way several times, she eventually managed to use her tech to save the life of Ron, Kim’s sidekick, and the bad guys were chased out of dodge. The event proved freighting for Joss, and even more so for her father who was biting his nails through it all, but when it was all over Joss felt exhilarated. She wanted to be a super heroine just like Kim and Ron all the more.

Unfortunately things wouldn’t be so easy. Kim Possible was able to become a teenage super heroine with the support of a wide network of friends, and, because her parents just didn’t care. Joss was too isolated to form such a wide network, and her father didn’t want her risking her life again. With a simple “no!” Slim shot down Joss’ dream of becoming teenage super heroine. For the next year, Joss would go back to entertaining herself with stories the best she could. This went on for a year, before her father held enough sympathy for a compromise. He decided to send her to a fancy boarding school where she would have many more interesting things to do.

Joss had trouble adjusting to a boarding school with wealthy children, as they looked at her for her “red neck” accent. But soon she made many friends, one in particular, a mutant named Anna Lusumba. Joss learned that Anna was a mutant and her mutant powers were manifesting. She kept it secret, but when she light coming out of her hands she was excited. She would also be ready.

When Anna got a call that her mother had died, she went into a state of extreme distress, and lost control of her power. She could not stop herself from producing powerful white energy out of her hands. The other children ran away screaming, but Joss ran in ready for action. She rescued two girls trapped in rubble while ducking and weaving through the energy blast, then turned to Anna herself. Getting close was not an option, so she spoke. Joss herself wouldn’t remember what her own words were, only they were comforting statements that allowed Ann to regain some control of her own powers. This allowed Joss to run in and provide her shoulder as a crying surface. Just like that the situation was diffused.

Then the X-men came. Joss knew who the X-men were from her constant studies of super heroes, and before she told them anything about the situation she got on her in front of Storm and begged her to let her join the institute. Storm for her part was more concerned with taking in Anna, but when she could talk she explained, the Xavier institute was only for mutants, and so she could join. Joss nerveless fell to her knees and begged that they take tissue samples to see if she had the X-gene. Storm agreed and told her where to send the sample.

Joss sent hair samples, blood samples, salvia samples, skin samples, to Dr McCoy’s lab, but all the samples came back contaminated with DNA of other life forms, or negative of all DNA. Finally Dr. McCoy came up with the idea of collecting a cell and dissecting it manually under a microscope. The process took days, as he found the cell’s nucleus was buried under layers of proteins he had never seen before, then further buried by strands of DNA fragments that contaminated the process further. Some of the cells were destroyed in the process, and when that happened Hank had to start over. Finally after much effort Hank managed to get a strain of DNA that belonged to Joss, and it had the X-gene.

As it turns out, Joss’ only power was that her cells produced proteins, and fake DNA that masked her real DNA, making it impossible for forensic equipment to pick up on it. It was a useless power, but she was technically qualified to join the Xavier institute.

Despite her father’s apprehensions, Joss comes to the institute eager to become an X-woman, but with no useful powers she faces an uphill battle. Still her talents, her sense of optimism, and determination may make it just possible.

And now this:
At the wave of her hand Joss’ pet robot floated to her back, and with the smoothness of silk folded its self into a backpack, clamping it’s self around her shoulders. Joss strutted through the gates of the institute her eyes covered by wraparound sunglasses, her hair cascading down to her shoulders like a horse’s mane.

She stopped before the steps to the institute. She lifted the sun glasses off her eyes, and with a subtle twist of her head, whipped the bangs out her eyes. She wanted to admire the sign to the Xavier institute for all its golden luster, as it reflected the sunlight of high noon. She dangled the sunglasses over her shoulder, and, on que, the robotic back pack opened its silver colored hand to accept them.

"I can't believe this is happin. I'm finally here at the institute. I'm gonna be a super heroine." She stood there, the aw stopping her from moving. She let her head fall to the side, she formed a small smile, as she went into a day dreamy state, imagining all the great adventures she go on when she became an X-woman. She sighed. She shook her head to bring herself back to reality.

Joss swiveled her eyes when she noticed three other children staring at her metal backpack. “Ya like her?” With a roll of her shoulders the metal backpack released Joss and floated in the air, unfolding into a diamond shape. Joss tapped the floating robot with her knuckles, her chin high with pride. “This here is old tornado a nice little parting gift from ma pappy. Back in the day, she were a robot horse that I rode, but now she rides me.” A quick turn of her hand caused the machine to do a summersault in the air. It was so slick it didn’t even disturb the air.

“Name’s Joss Possible, what’s yours?” Joss extended her hand to shake, and so did Tornado.
